What did 2019 teach management? For me it was the year when the supply chain became the attack surface. Outsourcing providers were used as a way into their customers, a whole bunch of small municipalities in Texas went down on the same day through one provider and in November it happened in Spain. If you run a business, your providers\u00b4 security is your security.<\/p>\n
It was also the year when the old servers started to hurt. BlueKeep showed that the systems nobody owns are the ones that get you, and in two weeks Windows 7 and Server 2008 are out of support. I hope your list is shorter than it was in July.<\/p>\n
And it was the year when Zero Trust went from a buzzword to something I actually discuss with management. That makes me happy.<\/p>\n
Speaking of infections: The news today is about a mysterious pneumonia in a city in China, apparently linked to a market. As having a serious pneumonia as a kid that almost took my life I\u00b4m always a bit scared of such reports. Let\u00b4s hope it stays there. In our line of business we have enough with the digital viruses, and those don\u00b4t care about borders either.<\/p>\n
