Happy new year 2020
Dec 31st, 2019 by Jesper Kråkhede
It is New Year´s Eve again. The family is getting ready, the champagne is cooling and the security architect is writing a blog post. Some things never change.
What did 2019 teach management? For me it was the year when the supply chain became the attack surface. Outsourcing providers were used as a way into their customers, a whole bunch of small municipalities in Texas went down on the same day through one provider and in November it happened in Spain. If you run a business, your providers´ security is your security.
It was also the year when the old servers started to hurt. BlueKeep showed that the systems nobody owns are the ones that get you, and in two weeks Windows 7 and Server 2008 are out of support. I hope your list is shorter than it was in July.
And it was the year when Zero Trust went from a buzzword to something I actually discuss with management. That makes me happy.
Speaking of infections: The news today is about a mysterious pneumonia in a city in China, apparently linked to a market. As having a serious pneumonia as a kid that almost took my life I´m always a bit scared of such reports. Let´s hope it stays there. In our line of business we have enough with the digital viruses, and those don´t care about borders either.
Wash your hands, patch your servers and Happy new year!!!
