Watching the news from Wuhan
Jan 31st, 2020 by Jesper Kråkhede
A slightly different post this time.
For a few weeks I have followed the news about the new coronavirus from Wuhan in China. At first it sounded far away. Now the city is closed down, the virus has turned up in several other countries and yesterday WHO declared it a public health emergency of international concern. Today we got the first confirmed case here in Sweden.
As a child I was seriously ill in my lungs. I´m fine today and I don´t believe I´m at any particular risk, but some things stay with you. I have always been careful with respiratory infections, and when something new is spreading I prefer to be early rather than late.
So I will look at working from home where it´s possible, at least for the meetings that don´t need me in the room. Luckily most of what I do can be done from anywhere with a good connection, and the customers I work with are used to online meetings by now.
It also made me think about something else. If more people start working from home, how many companies are actually ready for it? Is the VPN sized for it? Are the laptops managed when they are not in the office?
I suspect I´ll come back to that question.
Take care of yourselves, and wash your hands.
