When technology moves faster than people

My previous post was about helping older relatives with their logins. It touches on something bigger that management should think about.
Technology changes faster than people. Every year there are new ways to log on, new apps, new rules and new threats. For those of us who work with it, that is exciting. For many others, it is tiring, confusing and sometimes frightening.
That gap is a security risk. Users who don´t understand the technology make mistakes, find workarounds or simply give up. The scammers know this and target exactly the people who feel insecure. And inside organisations, every new tool that is rolled out without enough support creates confusion that an attacker can use.
And the pace isn´t slowing down. If anything, it is accelerating. New kinds of tools are arriving that will change how we work even more over the next few years.
So for management: Don´t just ask whether a new technology is secure. Ask whether your people can use it securely. Budget for training, support and time to learn, not just for licences. Design processes so that the secure way is the easy way. And remember that not everyone learns at the same pace, and that is okay.
Technology changes in months. People change in years. Plan for both.
