Happy new year 2025
Dec 31st, 2024 by Jesper Kråkhede
It is New Year´s Eve again. Another year older. Not wiser, my family says, but still healthy, and I am grateful for that every single day.
This year I have been thinking about the young people who are studying at university right now. They will be the security professionals of the 2030s. Are they learning the right things? I hope they learn identity, cloud, how attacks really work and how to explain risk to people who don´t speak our language. I fear many still learn firewalls and network protocols as if it were 2005. I hope they learn that curiosity and the courage to question are worth more than any certificate.
I have also been thinking about Ukraine. The war has become a war of drones, cheap and plentiful, controlled and jammed through software and radio. What happens there will shape how wars are fought for decades, and how we must protect everything that is connected and can be taken over. Everything we build today is a potential target or weapon tomorrow.
And that is the strange thing about our time. We are always connected. Our homes, our cars, our health, our money. That is wonderful, and it is fragile.
So before the year ends: hug the people close to you. And thank you to everyone who does their part to make tomorrow a little better. One fight, one recovery and one smile at a time.
Don´t let the trolls win. And if they try, my dachshunds will chase them out of their holes and bite them in the ankles.
Happy new year!
